Secrets of the Soil

Posted November 6, 2010 / Taken September 22, 2010

I got bored and went on a photographic adventure in my backyard near dusk on a September evening. Because everything is more fun behind a macro lens, whether it’s decaying rooty plants, or a group of old pinecones laying in the ashes of a chimenea.

Shot with my beastmonster camera, a Nikon d90. Aside from a little messing with the colors of the plant shots and removing the evidence of DUST ON MY IMAGE SENSOR (…… WRATH) I didn’t do much editing on these.

I think the thing I like most about macro is the blur and what it does to colors. They bleed into each other in such a satisfying way..

The composition here makes me angry, but I took these photos just for these pink roots on this mulch, and I couldn’t stand not using at least one of these shots.

This juxtaposition of the living wood of the pinecones and the white snow of the ashes kind of haunts me.
